At FlyData we provide near realtime replication from Amazon RDS to Amazon Redshift. Depending on the plan you choose and your dataset, most customers do not incur overages/overage fees. However, if you have a large dataset or your plan doesn't support the replication volume you are producing, overages start to incur which can be costly. It is important to us to provide value to our customers and keep our service affordable.
Our development team in collaboration with our customer success team developed a new feature which we call "Max Overage Protection". This new feature helps to keep our customers from incurring excessive overages, giving them the opportunity to change their plan to better align with their usage needs. The new feature is now rolled out to our production environment and is now live for all customers.
By default, all accounts have a 200% overage threshold. Once this threshold is met, your applications will be temporarily paused and a notification displayed in the FlyData console dashboard. This gives you the opportunity to work with our technical sales engineers to address your usage needs and assist you in reducing overall costs.
To change the threshold from within the FlyData console is very simple. First login to your console here.
Once you are logged in, you'll want to click on your email address in the top right-hand corner and choose account settings:
Once you are in your Account Settings please choose Usage Reports and scroll down to the bottom to the Max Overage Protection section and simply select your overage threshold.
Once this is saved, you're all set.
If you ever hit the Max Overage Protection threshold you'll receive a notice in the FlyData dashboard similar to this:
You will also receive an email similar to this as you approach the threshold:
When you receive this notice, please reach out to your technical sales engineer or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll work with you to adjust the plan or come up with a strategy to keep the overages at a minimum.
We hope that you enjoy this feature as much as we enjoyed building it into our platform. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to us at email@example.com or start a chat session from within the FlyData console.
